Universidad Autonoma de Baja California (UABC) Master’s Thesis Research: Memristors Based on Mixed Metal Oxides Aug 2023 - Present Ensenada, BC, México •Designed and fabricated Au/ZnO/Al2O3/Ru, Au/Al2O3/ITO and Au/ZnO/Al2O3/ITO memristive devices using Atomic Layer De- position (ALD), sputtering, and thermal evaporation. •Performed ZnO/Al2O3 thin film thickness measurements by spectral reflectance spectroscopy. •Performed FTIR spectroscopy to confirm ZnO and Al2O3 bonding environments, and detect oxygen vacancies. •Investigated the role of electrode materials (Au, Ru, ITO) and Al2O3interlayer thickness (2–20 nm) on resistive switching mecha- nisms, stability, and reproducibility. •Conducted electrical characterization with Keithley 2450 SourceMeter: Chronoamperometry, I–V sweeps, pulsed stress protocols, retention and endurance tests. •Applied Weibull statistical analysis to evaluate reliability, variability, and failure modes across device populations. •Demonstrated that interface-engineered bilayer stacks (Au/ZnO/Al2O3/ITO) enhance reproducibility and enable multilevel conduc- tance states. •Achieved forming-free, low-voltage switching in optimized Au/ZnO(10nm)/Al2O3 (2nm)/ITO structures, emulating synaptic plas- ticity and advancing neuromorphic computing potential. Centro de Nanociencias y Nanotecnología, UNAM Internship: Thin-film synthesis and electrical characterization project Aug 2021 - Nov 2022 Ensenada, BC, México •Synthesized yttria-stabilized zirconia (YSZ) thin films using Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD). •Fabricated Au/YSZ/Si/Au devices using ALD to deposit YSZ and thermal evaporation for the Au electrodes deposition, integrated patterned top Au electrodes for independent device cells. •Performed YSZ thin film thickness measurements by spectral reflectance spectroscopy. •Conducted electrical characterization using a Keithley 2450 SourceMeter and Keysight E4990A Impedance Analyzer, including I–V sweeps, pulsed stress, galvanostatic cycling, and dielectric/impedance analysis. •Processed and analyzed experimental data with OriginLab to evaluate memristive switching, retention, endurance, and hysteresis behavior; identifying resistive switching, multilevel conductance states, and stable hysteresis loops. •Demonstrated coexistence of memristive and capacitive behavior in YSZ thin films, with charge-storage dynamics transitioning from electrostatic to pseudocapacitive regimes depending on voltage and temperature. Observed non-volatile memory characteristics and stable device performance over multiple cycles, highlighting potential for neuromorphic and memory applications. •Contributed to research outcomes published in *ACS Applied Electronic Materials* (2024), highlighting the bifunctionality of YSZ thin films for neuromorphic and energy storage applications.
